IMG and ISO files need to be “mounted” onto physical media (e.g. a USB or DVD) before they can be used to install software. The instructions below describe how to mount an IMG/ISO file onto a USB flash drive and install your software from it.
To install software from an ISO/IMG file using a USB flash drive:
-
Download and install the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT). This free software is what you will use to mount your ISO file.
Note: The WUDT only works with ISO files. If you downloaded an IMG file, change the file extension to .iso before you proceed.
-
Insert your USB flash drive into one of your computer’s USB ports.
-
Open the WUDT.
-
Click Browse and select your ISO file.
-
Click Next.
-
Click USB device.
-
Click Next.
-
Select your USB device in the dropdown list.
-
Click Begin copying and wait while the ISO file is mounted to the USB.
-
When the ISO file has been mounted, you can install your software with the USB. Depending on the software you downloaded, this may involve:
-
Clicking the file setup.exe in your computer's DVD directory, or
-
Rebooting your computer with the USB inserted.
Note: For a more detailed description of this process, see this document. For instructions on how to mount an IMG/ISO file on a recordable DVD instead of a USB, see this document. Both documents are available in English only.
